“And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire, and after the fire a still small voice.” (1st Kings 19 vs 12)
When Jezebel threatened Elijah, he became fearful and ran away. He was tired and felt hopeless. Who would have thought that a great prophet like Elijah would become so discouraged? But he was just like us, a human being who from time to time will need encouragement. Like Elijah we too should turn to God and wait for his instructions. He is the only one with the answer and he is the only one that speaks with clarity and truth.
We are living in a world filled with chaos. There is always something to cause fear and panic and one such thing is the Coronavirus. It has shaken the earth and is causing distress and perplexity upon nations (Luke 21 vs 25). It has become the topic of discussion (and rightfully so) everywhere you go. People have become fearful and are searching for answers. But we should be mindful that during this time, many voices will emerge. The voices of false prophets (Matthew 24 vs 24). Voices of your neighbors and the powerful voices of the media. But there is a voice that makes a difference and that’s the voice of Jesus. The voice that speaks to the wind and waves (Mark 4 vs 35-41). And that same voice is saying to us today, peace be still! Be still because he is still our refuge and strength and a very present help in trouble. He is with us; we shall not be moved. (read Psalms 46 vs 1-11).
Jesus encouraged us in the same chapter of Luke 21 that we should “watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.” Let us continue to watch and pray as we brace ourselves for the outcome of this devastating virus. That’s what Jesus did shortly before he was taken, he went into the garden of Gethsemane and he watched and prayed for the strength to take on the task of Calvary. We too need strength and we surely need to hear His voice!
Please look up this song on YouTube by Casting Crowns called “the voice of truth”
But the voice of truth tells me a different story
The voice of truth says, “Do not be afraid!”
The voice of truth says, “This is for My glory”
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth
Let us pray: Lord I repent of my sins today. Thank you for your word. I pray that you will comfort those who have lost loved ones to this virus. I thank you for protecting me and my family. Help me to listen to your voice because your voice speaks truth in Jesus name amen. Until next time. God bless you.
