“And the angel said unto them, fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.” Luke 2 vs 10
Mary was first to hear of this good news (Luke chapter 1), after all she was chosen by God to conceive Jesus! She heard quite a lot of good things that day. The angel told her not to fear, that she was highly favored by God, that she would give birth to a son and his name should be called Jesus, that he shall be great and he shall be called the Son of the Highest and shall be given the throne of David. The angel also told her that her cousin Elisabeth was with child (who was barren) for with God nothing is impossible. Can you imagine the joy that Mary felt that day? so much that she could not wait to share the good news with her cousin Elisabeth! The Bible says she went with haste to see Elizabeth, and the moment she greeted her the baby leaped in Elisabeth’s womb and immediately she (Elisabeth) was filled with the Holy Spirit! See what sharing the good news of the gospel can do?
In Luke chapter 2 when the angels announced the birth of Jesus to the shepherds, they too shared the news with others. Verse 17 said, “and when they (the shepherds) had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told to them concerning this child.” That’s exactly what we should be doing too, spreading tidings of great joy so that others can leap and be filled with the Holy Spirit just like Elisabeth and her baby. The good news of the gospel will eliminate the fear that’s quite evident in the world today.
Let’s continue the conversation in John 10, how he came that we might have life in abundance. He fulfilled his promise to us in John 16 vs 13 to send us the Spirit of truth which is the Holy Spirit. He said in Matthew 28 vs 20 that he will be with us always even unto the end of the world. He foretold his death and his resurrection in Luke 18 and Mark 8, and he indeed rose from the dead on the third day!!! That’s good news!
