Can He Trust You With The Gospel?

“But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.” 1st Thessalonians 2 vs 4.

The church today has become so materialistic that we have lost the mandate that was given to us by God.  We have been focusing on our own selfish gain that our eyes are blinded with lust and greed. It is no longer the undiluted word of God but to satisfy the people with itching ears and benefiting from the outcome. Please read 2nd Timothy 4 vs 3.

Paul made this declaration to the church in Thessalonica, “For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloak of covetousness, God is witness. Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, not yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.” (1st Thessalonians 2 vs 5 &6). In other words, Paul made sure that the church understood his true intention of preaching the gospel, that he preached for the saving of souls and for God to be glorified. There was no hidden agenda in his heart, no plans to deceive the people or to gain wealth and no plans to become a burden to anyone in the name of the gospel. His only desire was to be obedient to God.

Even though Paul suffered for the sake of the gospel he never lost sight of what he was called to do. He served faithfully with torn in his flesh, stirpes on his back, shipwrecked, bitten by poisonous snake and spent most of his life in prison. God is looking for men and women who will not be afraid to preach the truth and who will not do it for popularity or for fame. Isn’t it better to please God? why is it so important for us to get the world’s approval? Paul said it best in 2nd Corinthians 4 vs 2, “But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.” when you are called by God into ministry (1st Timothy 1 vs 12) all your personal desires must take second place to give way for God’s will be done.

The gospel is not for our personal gain, it is for saving of souls and for the glory of God. God will provide for his people in his own way, no need to become covetous or dishonest. No need to build buildings or purchase buildings that we cannot afford, then use flattery to sustain our agenda. If we do what God has called us to do, he will provide for us our daily bread and beyond. Let us be faithful, honest and different and preach the word, be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine (2nd Timothy 4 vs 2). Paul refer to the gospel as “that good thing” (2nd Timothy 1 vs 14), let us hold fast to that good thing in truth, so we too can pass the torch to the next generation the way Paul did with Timothy.

Let us pray: Lord I repent of my sins today. Thank you for your word.  Help me Lord to preach the gospel with no hidden agenda except for souls to be saved. Help me to be obedient to the mandate that you have given unto me and to do so in truth in Jesus name. Amen. Until next time. God bless you.
