“O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? (1st Corinthians 15 vs 55)
Before my maturity in Christ I was very fearful of death, it was a topic that I would have always avoided. I know I was not the only one who had this issue and I also know that I speak on the behalf of others who may still have the fear of death, but I have come to realize by the grace of God, that there is actually nothing to fear. The reality is, when Jesus came to earth and fulfilled his mission on the cross, that was victory over death! This is confirmed in Matthew 27 vs 52 “And the graves were opened, and many bodies of the saints which slept arose.” The death on the cross was so powerful that in his death others were resurrected from the dead while he was still on the cross, death was defeated in that very moment. But while we are here on this earth, the power of death will still be active because of sin. The Bible says the sting of death is sin and the strength of sin is the law (1Corinthians 15 vs 56). Whenever we sin, we can only receive one wages and that is death according to Romans 6 vs 23. It is a set payment that went into effect the day Adam and Eve sinned, and it will remain until Christ returns.
That is why the second coming of Jesus Christ is so important. It is the answer to our pain and suffering here on the earth. The second coming is something that Christians all over the world should be excited about. Why? Because at that time the manifestation of the victory over death will take place. Death will be destroyed, and its power taken away, according to Revelation 21 vs 3-4, “And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away.”
When the Bible says there will be no more death, it will not just be for those who will be spending eternity in heaven, but also for those who will be spending eternity in hell. Death will no longer have the power over anyone so those in hell will wish for death, but it will never come, because the sting of death is broken. Yes, there is coming a day when death will flee from us (Revelation 9 vs 6). If you are living in fear of death, there is good news, the good news is one day Christ will return and the sting of death will be no more, but it is up to us to decide where we will spend eternity death free. Will you live forever in heaven or will you live forever in hell? The reality is, either way, death will not have any more power over us. We shall be living for eternity no matter where we find ourselves. This is not something that we should take lightly, but we must ponder the fact that an eternity in hell without the option to die, means just what it says, a lifetime of torment, weeping and gnashing of teeth (Read Luke 13 vs 1-28)
I am reminded of this beautiful song. “Oh What A Sunrise” (I own no rights to this song).
Oh, what a sunrise it’s going to be.
Death will lose its sting,
the grave its victory.
The silence will be broken
The storm clouds rolled away, I hear the saints and angels singing, on our homecoming day
Let us Pray: Lord I repent of my sins today. Thank you for your word. Please remove every fear of death from my mind so I can live in the victory of the cross. Thank you, Lord, in Jesus name. Amen. Until next time. God bless you.
