“Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.” Matthew 25:1-2.
Today I would look at the way Jesus described what the kingdom of heaven is like. He would often tell his disciples stories (parables) about the kingdom of heaven. When he taught us the Lord’s prayer in Matthew 6 the kingdom of heaven was a part of that prayer, verse 10 says, “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” He was the kingdom who came to earth and he was his Fathers will be done on the earth. This can be proven in the work of Christ when he healed the sick, raised the dead, delivered those who were bound and how he established the church as stated in Matthew 16:18.
Whenever he likened the kingdom of heaven unto a scenario, he was really referring to his transformational work and the results of his work on the earth. Though the parables were the mysteries of heaven (Matthew 13:10-11) yet they were fulfilled through Jesus Christ who represented and carried out his Father’s will even unto the cross. Here are some scriptures about the kingdom of heaven as told by Jesus.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hid in a field, the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls, who when he had found one pearl of great price, went, and sold all that he had, and bought it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind, which when it was full, they drew to shore and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.
If you look carefully at the stories or parables you will see, refuge, shelter, love, preparation, salvation, and the role of the church. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done (Jesus Christ) came to earth not only to carry out his Father’s will, but also to prepare us to go to heaven one day. Please follow up with these scriptures for more stories told by Jesus about the kingdom of heaven, you will truly be blessed by them: –
