Celebrating Life…My Testimony

“Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.” 1 Tim. 2:15

Sorry for my late post, but my hands were full yesterday. Why? Because it was my only daughter’s nineteen birthday and we tried to make her day special amidst covid-19. We stayed home but it was nothing short of fun. She had her little photo shoot done in the parking lot downstairs and inside the house and we baked her a cake and made dinner (just three of us!). We really had a great time. But I decided to write a little about her special day on this post because it is my way of saying to God thank you so much for the life you have given to us.

For those who haven’t read my book yet, let me tell you why her birthday is so important to us. Nineteen years ago, doctors told me to abort my child or risk dying in childbirth both me and the baby. Her dad and I stood in faith and decided to go through with the pregnancy. The hospital became my second home, as I was admitted almost every two weeks because I was extremely sick because of the pregnancy. I went from being perfectly fine one minute to being labelled high risk with preeclampsia symptoms.

What is Preeclampsia? It is a potentially dangerous pregnancy complication characterized by high blood pressure. Pre-eclampsia usually begins after 20 weeks of pregnancy in a woman whose blood pressure had been normal. It can lead to serious, even fatal, complications for both mother and baby. There may be no symptoms. High blood pressure and protein in the urine are key features. There may also be swelling in the legs and water retention, but this can be hard to distinguish from normal pregnancy. (www.google.com)

Long story short, when I look back and see my daughter today, all grown up, and heading in the right direction I believe It merits me sharing how good God has been to us.  We stared death in the face, but God pulled us back. He gave us a second chance and he (God) named her Anna! We had a different name for her, but while we were on our way to have her registered the Lord spoke to my heart and told me to name her Anna. That morning when I told her dad that we should name her Anna, he pulled the car over on the sidewalk and started worshiping. Afterwards, he told me that the Lord had spoken to him weeks before to name her Anna but he was scared to tell me, because I had already picked out a name for her, and he did not want to disappoint me. So, he said, he asked the Lord to visit me. Well God paid me a visit alright and that’s how she got her name.

We found out later that day, that the Bible meaning of her name is God’s grace or favor. Glory be to God, because it was truly his grace, favor, and his mercy that brought us through. Today, I am so grateful, that she is a true reflection of Psalms 144:12, a corner stone polished after the similitude of a palace. My testimony today, is not to exalt my daughter but to exalt my Lord and savior. He has been good to us and his mercy truly endureth forever (1 Chronicles 16:34).

Please sing this song with me, titled “Made a Way, by Travis Green.

Made a way
Don’t know how but You did it
Made a way
Standing here not knowing how we’ll get through this test
But holding unto faith You know that
Nothing can catch You by surprise
You got this figured out and You’re watching us now
But when it looks as if we can’t win
You wrap us in Your arm and step in
And everything we need You supply
You got this in control
And now we know that

You made a way
When our backs were against the wall
And it looked as if it was over
You made a way
And we’re standing here
Only because You made a way
You made a way

And now we’re here
Looking back on where we come from
Because of You and nothing we’ve done
To deserve the love and mercy You’ve shown
But Your grace was strong enough to pick us up…..

Let us pray: Lord please forgive me of my sins today. Thank you for your word. Thank you for making a way when I thought there was no way. I praise you my Abba Father, Emanuel, my rock and my fortress and I lift you up in Jesus name. Amen. Until next time. God bless you.

  1. Sheila, that is so beautiful. I’m so happy to have read your story. Your daughter is indeed a gift and miracle from God. What a daily inspiration to have in life. Hope she will have plenty of opportunities to celebrate not just her birthday, but her life, which has brought light to the life of others around her without her even knowing. Grace and peace to you and your family.

  2. Amen. Wonderful testimony, Sheila. It is clear that the Lord has worked marvelously in your family’s life. Also, it strikes me how your Anna is a walking testimony of God’s grace in much the same as are Jairus’ daughter (whom Jesus restored to life), and the woman with the issue of blood (whom Jesus healed) must have been .

May Anna continue to be a blessing all of her days!
