Tear Down Your Idols

“And God spake all these words, saying. I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” Exodus 20:1-3.

What is an idol? Exodus 20:4 answered that question perfectly saying, “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.” And according to google, an idol is an image or representation of a god used as an object of worship.  So, we fully understand what idols are and that we should never worship or bow down to anything or anyone except to the true and living God.

An idol can also be a person, for example your children, your husband, your wife, or a famous individual. If we overly admire someone or excessively love someone that can be classified as an idol. While we should love others and treat them with respect, we should never let our love for others be so intense that we place them above God. God deserves all the glory and he deserves the highest praise.

I know someone who loves his child in such a way that it has become obsessive and excessive. It appears that nothing or no one else matters but his child. The child is never wrong and even if the child did something extremely bad, that parent will always find a way to cover the wrong or the actions of that child. But we ought to be careful because we not only serve a loving God, but we serve a God who is also jealous. God does not hide the fact that he is jealous over us, he has said it numerous times in scriptures like in Exodus 20:5 and Exodus 34:14.

Is there someone in your life that has taken the place of God? Or do you have great possessions that have consumed even your very thoughts? If you have answered yes to these questions, then, it is time to repent and let go. It is time to let God be the main idea and it is time to surrender. Do not wait until it is taken from you. God must be the center of all you do, and he must come first before everyone or anything in your life. Today I challenge you, to search your heart for the idol that has taken the place of God, repent and tear it down so you can be free.

Chevelle Franklin did a song titled “No foreign God.”  Sing with me: –

Thank You Jesus
Wiser than the wisest
You are Stronger than the strongest
Yes God, You are Richer than the richest
You are cloth with Majesty
You are cloth with Power, You are cloth with Strength
The heaven declare the Glory of the Lord
The earth belongs to You
The heaven belongs to You
Father we give You Glory
Because You, I will flourish like the palm tree
We give You Glory
We give You Glory
We give You Glory
Oh Lord.
Master Jesus
We give You Glory
Jesus, Jesus
We give You Glory
We give You Glory
Oh Lord

No foreign god can take, Your place
No foreign god can take, Your place
No foreign god can take, Your place
It’s You that I love (echo)
It’s You that I love
It’s You that I love
It’s You that I love
It’s You that I love
It’s You that I love
It’s You that I love

Let us pray: Lord please forgive me of my sins today. Thank you for your word. Lord please help me to love you more than life itself. Help me to remove every foreign god from my heart so I can serve only you, in Jesus name. Amen. Until next time God bless you.
