We Have Access

And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:18-19

Jesus asked the disciples “whom do men say that I the Son of man am?” (Matt. 16:13). They came up with many answers of what others say about Jesus, but Jesus wanted to know if his disciples truly knew who he was, he wanted to know if they were ready to receive the keys to the kingdom (though he knows everything, even our deepest secrets) but it was important for them to confess who he was with their own lips. Jesus was after their hearts, because whatever you believe in your heart that is what you will speak or confess (Romans 10:10). It was only after Peter declared him “the Christ and the Son of the living God” that he gave him the keys to the kingdom. He not only gave him access but that moment Peter became the church on which we stand today, and hell cannot prevail against it (Matt. 16:16-18).

A locked door requires a key to unlock it, a highly secured building requires security access to get in. Without the company giving you access in the form of ID cards or keys you cannot get inside your workplace. But your access comes from somewhere else behind the scene you don’t just gain access because you were given a key or ID cards. There is always a team working behind the scene so whenever you swipe your card the door lights up and you can enter the building. That’s what Jesus did for his disciples when he gave them the key, it was a direct connection to the kingdom. Heaven stands attention when we use that key. No matter what is going on in your life, use your key. The key to unlock the blessings and brings deliverance is the name of Jesus. Because at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:10-11).

Do you want the keys to the kingdom? Your answer should be yes. Surrender to Jesus today, believe in your heart that he came and died and confess with your mouth, and you will be given access. Then you can go boldly to the throne of grace to obtain favor in times of need according to Hebrews chapter 4 verse 16. Whatever your need is today, use your key.

Let us pray: Lord please forgive me of my sins today. Thank you for your word. I am grateful that through your son Jesus Christ that I now have access to the kingdom of Heaven. Thank you for giving me authority over principalities here on the earth in Jesus name. Amen. Until next time God bless you.

  1. Excellent post. Regarding Peter being the church … actually, it is Peter’s confession — “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” — upon which the church is built, not Peter himself. It’s his confession upon which Christians stand.

    Thank you, blessings.
