After The Fact

“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

Sin is a topic of discussion that we will never stop talking about until the day Christ returns. Why? Because of our sinful nature. Even after you have accepted Christ you are still prone to sin (being prone to sin does not mean that God is not able to sustain us), but we all have a part to play in our faith walk.

Sometimes we sin presumptuously (willfully/freely). We knew what we were getting into and we did it anyway. No wonder David asked God to keep him from presumptuous sin and not to let them have dominion over him (Psalms 19:13). When we begin to causally sin against God, that’s a dangerous path to walk on. it can take dominion over us and eventually destroy us.

Sometimes we sin on purpose (premeditated). We had time to think about it, planned it and eventually execute our sinful thoughts. The thing is either way, sin is sin and no matter how we try to justify it, it will not change what we have done. The only hope after the fact is Jesus. Though you may feel like hiding (like what Adam and Eve did in the garden), hiding will not help you. The quicker you take responsibility for what happened the better. Once you have acknowledged your sins it is time to confess them to God and repent.  

If you are not a Christian, you may not feel the same conviction that a person who is a Christian may feel after they have committed a sin (not that an unsaved person is heartless), but once you entered into a covenant relationship with God everything will look different and feel different including sin. Why? Because you are now born again, you have been washed in the blood of the lamb and your spiritual eyes have been opened to the truth of God’s word, so it will never be business as usual.

How do you feel after you have sinned against God? it is better not to find out but unfortunately most of us will. it is not a good feeling. You will begin to lose faith, become fearful and even shy away from reading the word of God. Now you understand why Adam and Eve hid themselves or why David said my sin is ever before me (Psalms 51). As in my opening scripture, we have all fallen short of God’s glory but though that is a fact, God has made provision for us through his son Jesus Christ. We can run to the cross, we can cry out abba father and run towards his grace. Today, if you have found yourself in an after the fact moment, then it is time to run to the cross because there you will find his grace which is always sufficient according to his word.

Let us pray:  Lord, thank you for forgiving me of my sins. Thank you for your word. I am sorry for my sins and I pray that you will forgive me through the blood of your son Jesus Christ. Thank you that though my sins be as scarlet you have made them white as snow in Jesus name. Amen. Until next time. God bless you.
