Do Not Put Your Trust In What Can Be Broken

“And he took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily. So, the Egyptians said, let us flee from the face of Israel, for the Lord fighteth for them against the Egyptians.” Exodus 14:25

How many times we have placed our trust in the wrong things or in the wrong people? Yes, at some point many of us have found ourselves trusting the wrong source. The Egyptians had that issue. They trusted in their magic and they trusted in their chariots of war. I am sure that those chariots were built to withstand great battles and treacherous roads. But look at what happened, while they were driving those chariots, the wheels started falling off leaving them helpless and baffled.

Psalms 20:7 said it best, “some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.”  That scripture basically sums it all up for us. Anything that is man-made or within the realm of mankind cannot be trusted. It is always subject to failure no matter how promising it may seem. Therefore, we must be careful not to see mankind or any system that was created by man to be our solid rock. God is and should always be our rock on which we stand. He never fails and only he can permanently destroy the work of mankind.

Yesterday, as I watched the beginning of a new presidency in America, it was very surprising to see the hope and trust that millions have placed in our new president. The weight on his shoulders and the expectations are high and so will the disappointment if he fails. Some even in Christendom have forgotten that the president is just a man and he cannot save the world. They have forgotten to be the watchmen on the walls offering up prayers for this nation instead of joining the crowd who are trying to catch the wind. My friends, take heed that we do not rely on the promises of men because they will surely fail if God is not at the center of what they do.  Now is the time to be watchful and to be consistent in prayer. True prosperity in America will require God’s presence and a nation’s willingness to listen to his voice and obey. It will require us to tear down some groves and idols even in the face of harsh criticism, so that on the day of our calamity the Lord will not laugh at us (Proverbs 1:26) but instead he will hear and answer our prayers.

Let us pray: Lord, please forgive me of my sins today. Thank you for your word. Lord I thank you that all those who have put their trust in you have been victorious. Thank you that you are the only wise God, and the future is in your hands. I pray that our spiritual eyes will be open and that we will truly become watchmen on the walls of this great nation in Jesus name. Amen. Until next time. God bless you.
