“And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness, and behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.” Numbers 17:8
When people of influence rise up against you, it is not an easy task to fight. Why? Because when you are popular and people are willing to listen to you, almost anything you do will be a success. That’s what happened to Moses and Aaron when some of the people began to murmur about them being in charge of the congregation. Korah, the son of Izhar and his companions did not just choose anyone to join them, they wanted men and women of influence, someone who the people admired and who they will listen to (Numbers 16:1-3), so that they could have achieved their goal of overthrowing Moses and Aaron as leaders.
But they had forgotten one important thing, and that was, Moses and Aaron did not appoint themselves leaders, God did! And only God could have changed that. So, the Lord gave Moses instructions, that everyone should take a rod and write their names on their own rods and gave it to Moses to lay in the tabernacle in front of the people (for transparency) please read Numbers 17:1-7. Moses did accordingly, and what happened next was just phenomenal. God did not just cause Aaron’s rod to bud, but he caused it to bloom and yielded fruits (almonds). That way there was no more doubt that he was chosen by God to stand with Moses to lead the people. God needed to confirm this for Aaron’s sake because the people already knew that Moses was chosen, but now, they had to contend with two brothers leading them, and that was the real issue.
What are you faced with today? Is your leadership being questioned on the job or even in your church? Do you feel as if others have risen up against you and do you feel intimidated because your enemies are influential people? Be encouraged that if you were approved by God then he will show up and caused you to bud, bloom and prosper. He will speak on your behalf and silence your enemies even the influential ones.
Let us pray: Lord, please forgive me of my sins today. Thank you for your word. Please help me to continue to trust you even more when my enemies rise up against me. Help me to rest in you and your promises knowing that you will cause me to bloom like Aaron’s rod in Jesus name. Amen. Until next time. God bless you.
