The Apple Of His Eye

“For thus saith the Lord of hosts. After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled (plunder) you, for he that toucheth you toucheth the apply of his eye.” Zechariah 2:8

Zechariah was a young prophet when the word of the Lord came to him regarding Jerusalem (Zechariah 2:3-4).  God spoke to him through two angels about the future of Jerusalem. But in order to grasp a better understanding of this chapter, then I invite you to read the entire chapter of Zechariah 1.

In chapter 1 God called his people to repentance. Their forefathers have sinned, and God was displeased with them and where there is no repentant of sins, there is no room for God to restore. So, that was the first thing God called for, repentance! God’s plan was to return to Jerusalem to restore his people but first they had to invite him in by way of repentance, and not just for what they did but for what their forefathers did. Yes, God is a God of order and clarity.

We would all like to be called the apple of God’s eye but not all of us are willing to admit when we have sinned or even to repent of our sins. David was a sinful man, but yet God referred to him as a man of his own heart (1st Samuel 13:14 & Acts 13:22). Why? Because David had a heart of worship and David willingly repented of his sins no matter how vile they were. In Psalms 17:8, David asked God to keep him as the apple of his eye, and to hide him under the shadow of his wings. When you are the apple of God’s eye, he protects you, he covers you and you are sheltered from the storms of life. That is what he did for Jerusalem. He returned and chose them (Zechariah 1:17). He dwelt in their midst and became the wall of protection around them, and not just any wall but a wall of fire! (Zechariah 2:4-11)

God is not looking for perfect people, he is just looking for people who are willingly to admit and repent of their sins, so that they can be the apple of his eye. That is where I want to stay in God’s eyes, what about you?

Let us pray:  Lord, please forgive me of my sins today. Thank you for your word. As I come before you Lord, help me to always repent of my sins, knowing that only you can save and deliver me from whatever I am struggling with. Please keep me and my children as the apple of your eye so that you can be a wall of protection and coverage around us at all times, in Jesus’ name. Amen. Until next time. God bless you all.
